ROLLSTOCK PRODUCTION PROCESS

A closer look at
how your film
is made.

From base-film rolls to printed, laminated rollstock.

Follow the key stages used to turn base-film rolls into printed, laminated packaging. Explore how printing, lamination, curing, slitting and inspection relate to the finished roll.

01 / MATERIAL ROLLS

Start with the film structure.

Base-film rolls are prepared for conversion. The selected materials and thicknesses are reviewed against the packaging specification.

02 / PRINTING

Bring the artwork onto film.

The printing line transfers the artwork to the film. Print layout, repeat length and registration marks are part of the production specification.

03 / LAMINATION

Combine the selected layers.

Lamination joins the selected films or foil into one structure. Each layer has a role in the finished packaging, from the printed surface to the inner sealing layer.

04 / CURING

Allow time for the laminate.

Laminated rolls are held through the required curing stage. Time and conditions depend on the adhesive system and laminate specification.

05 / SLITTING & REWINDING

Prepare rolls for your line.

The wide web is slit and rewound into rolls for the agreed format. Roll width, core size, winding direction and roll dimensions must match the filling equipment.

CHECKS ALONG THE WAY

Look beyond
the finished roll.

Print review, film inspection and material testing help address different questions about the packaging.
